  1. Evaluation Perspectives
    1. Formative Evaluation
    2. Summative Evaluation
  2. Usability Testing.  People who use the product can do so easily. It meets their needs in their terms and at the time they need it.
  3. Purposes of Evaluation.
    1. Feedback, Planning, Prediction and Diagnosis
    2. Intervention
    3. Motivation
    4. Research
    5. Power Games
  4. Kirkpatrick's Levels of Evaluation

Measure of Central Tendency
  1. Mode- Frequent score in a set of measures
  2. Median- The middle score in the distribution that separated the top half of the group from the bottom half
  3. Mean- The sum of scores divided by the total number of scores
Frequency distribution and graphing data
  1. Frequency distribution
  2. Histogram
  3. Creating frequency distributions and histograms in Excel
Shapes of Distribution
  1. Normal- bell-shaped
  2. Negatively skewed- the longer tail toward the X and Y intercept
  3. Positively- the longer tail extends away from the intercept
  4. Bimodal- two humps
Measure of Variability
  1. Range
  2. Semi-interquartile range

lecture 2.  Descriptive Statistics
Terms
  1. Cross tabs- summarization in table format of a set of categorical data consisting of two or more variables.  Refer to table descriptive stat selection guide.
  2. Scattergram- relationship of two variables.  Refer to table-Descriptive Stat Selection Guide
  3. Descriptive statistics- basic measures
  4. Inferential statistics
    1. decisions about Null and research hypotheses
    2. de-generalizing from sample to population
  5. Measures of central Tendency
    1. mean- arithmetic average
    2. median- midpoint in a distribution
    3. mode- most frequent score
  6. Standard Scores:  Computing z Scores ( represent different locations on the x-axis, and Location on the x-axis is associated with a particular percentage of the distribution z scores can be used to predict the percentage of scores both above and below a particular score)
  7. Types of Charts
    1. Pie
    2. Bar
    3. Histogram
    4. Frequency Polygon
    5. Line Graph
    6. Scattergram (see video of Sea Cows)
